ABOUT THE BOOK
“In a nook near the shore, where the cherry trees sway,
lives Sloane the young gnome who plants and plays…”
So begins the tale of Sloane the gnome, a cheerful little maker who loves to paint, pickle, quilt, and play. One sunny afternoon, she decides to try something new—baking a cherry pie.
But when the sweet, irresistible smell drifts through the forest, Sloane faces an important choice: keep the pie for herself or share it with her woodland friends.
Brimming with enchanting rhymes, whimsical illustrations, and a heartfelt lesson, Sloane the Gnome Bakes a Cherry Pie is a delightful read for children ages 3 to 8. This sweet tale celebrates the joy of creativity, sharing, and community.
Author Sally Collins, an amateur maker herself, loves creating stories inspired by Midwest landscapes. She lives in Door County with her family, where she contributes regularly to the local newspaper and magazine. She’s also the author of a children’s board book, Door County Animals, as well as a coming-of-age novel published by Orange Hat’s imprint Ten16 Press, Muddled Cherries.
Illustrator Alison McDole, an artist/illustrator from Stoughton, Wisconsin, is inspired by nature, children’s books, quilting, her dog Francie, and all things handmade. She received her B.F.A in drawing and painting, as well as an M.A. in arts education, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She spends her days as an art teacher and tries to soak up as much of the kiddos’ energy as she can!
