ABOUT THE BOOK
Donny thinks his dimples are awful. His mom thinks they’re cute. Big Max thinks they’re hilarious!
Every day at school, Big Max teases Donny about his dimples. But Donny is certain that the taunting will stop when he shows up at school wearing a beard (no dimples in sight!). And all goes well . . . until lunch.
How far will Donny go to hide his cute, infuriating dimples?
Donny Dimples is a picture book that deals with the sensitive issue of childhood bullying through the use of humor. This story provides opportunities for parents and educators to teach young children about the negative effects of bullying and the importance of positive self-esteem.
Author Monica Lauscher was born and raised in Sturgeon Bay, WI, and currently lives with her husband near the Whitefish Dunes State Park in beautiful Door County. She’s passionate about reading, writing, and illustrating children’s books. She is a member of Write On, Door County and was a long time member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. Her picture book credits include winning the 2013 SCBWI-WI Annual Mentorship Competition, and in 2016, won 1st place in the Annual Rate Your Story Writer’s Competition. If you ask Monica, what is the best part of her writing journey, she will tell you it was her writing “family” who welcomed her through the years.
Illustrator Aaron Fennell is from south-eastern Minnesota. His desire to draw comes from his love of stories. His art style uses distinct expressions, posing, and coloring to best depict the character’s emotions and setting. Aaron pushes himself to improve his skills with every drawing he makes. After all, if a picture is worth a thousand words, we better make sure they are good ones.
