Somewhere in Northern Wisconsin, in a small town that’s barely a rest stop on the way to Canada, Jude and Sydney are falling in love. Forty miles east, Brooks and Nevaeh are trying not to know each other, and further south, Ben and Stevie are wondering if they’d be better off if they never had. Gwyn’s brother, Joey, just adopted a baby girl; Dylan’s brother, Ellis, just got engaged to Gwyn; John’s trying to figure out if his son, Kyle, has a crush on Dylan; and Dylan is trying to locate Tracy Schraeder, who’s missing her package.

In a series of interwoven short stories, Canine explores themes of grief, love, identity, belonging, and what it means to be queer in the Midwest. This is a book about dog-fighting rings, about a killer jackalope, about staring a deer in the eyes, about the ending of Charles Dickens’ A Tale Of Two Cities, packages delivered to ghosts, a sundial shaped like a lady’s leg, and, perhaps most of all, true blue magic, and a leg in the ground.

Author Charlie Blue is a fiction writer with an English degree from Carthage College. They are a born-and-bred fan of Chicago sports and an avid lover of penguins, cheese curds, and music of all genres. They currently reside in Southeast Wisconsin with their family and their beloved dog, Honey.
