Fair to say we all know of Elton John. His music has been a mainstay on the world stage for 50 years and counting. But you might not know of Bernie Taupin, his collaborator and lyricist. Bernie chose to stay out of the limelight. But his words take center stage through the genius of Elton’s composition.

Closer to street level, Bernie Seeking Elton is a collection of song lyrics for the musically inclined but lyrically not. A collection of verse for those who like their poetry incisive and unadorned. This first release from an insightful writer presents a unique take on what John Mellencamp calls “the full catastrophe of life.”

Author Phil Sipos honed his skills in the alternate reality of real-world advertising. In 2016 he retired–was retired. Not content to sit back, he followed his creative instinct and began writing lyrics. Not a musician or composer himself, he was attracted to the meter and short form of songwriting, akin to the ad writing discipline.

This project is, in the writer’s words, “The happy accident of being around a while.” A keen observer of human nature, the author takes an introspective look through the eyes behind our collective skin. To reveal the underdog, the underserved, the displaced face-maced disgraced character that is us.
